About this install
This Doncaster family already had solar, but they were sending a lot of excess energy back to the grid during the day.
Their energy use was much higher in the evening — with ducted AC in summer, electric heating in winter and a home office running during the day. They were also planning to add an EV.
They didn't want a small battery that would quickly become too small for their needs.
The goal was simple: store more of their solar during the day and have enough energy available for the evening, overnight and future EV use.
The solution
We installed a 42.12kWh FoxESS CQ7 battery system with a 10kW three‑phase inverter.
The system uses six 7.02kWh battery modules, giving the home plenty of storage for its higher energy use.
The CQ7's modular design also means more capacity can be added later if the family's energy needs grow.
Why 42kWh?
A smaller 10 or 15kWh battery wouldn't have given this family enough storage for their evening and overnight use.
With 42kWh of storage, they have more energy available after the sun goes down, with additional capacity to support their future EV needs.
We sized the battery around how the family uses energy today — while leaving room for tomorrow.

Ready for an EV
The 10kW three‑phase inverter was sized to support the home's higher energy demand, with room for future EV use.
During the day, excess solar can charge the battery. In the evening, stored energy can be used in the home instead of buying as much electricity from the grid during higher‑cost periods.
The system can also support overnight EV charging using stored energy or lower‑cost grid power, depending on the home's energy needs.
More of their solar stays in the home, instead of being sent back to the grid.
