A clean, compact battery setup built for everyday home energy use
About this install
This Box Hill family already had solar installed, but they were still buying electricity from the grid during the evening when rates were higher.
Their energy use was fairly typical — cooking, lighting, split‑system air conditioning and everyday household appliances.
The problem wasn't how much electricity they used. It was when they used it.
Their time‑of‑use electricity plan had higher prices during the evening peak, so much of their solar generation wasn't available when they needed it most.
The goal was simple: store more of their solar power during the day and use it when electricity costs more.
The solution
We added a 26.6kWh Alpha battery with a 5kW inverter to their existing solar system.
During the day, excess solar power can be stored in the battery instead of being sent back to the grid. The stored energy can then be used in the evening when the family needs it most.
This helps reduce the amount of electricity they need to buy from the grid during higher‑cost periods.
Why a 5kW inverter?
This home doesn't have a large evening load.
There was no EV charger or other high‑power equipment running at the same time, and their typical peak usage was well within 5kW.
So there was no need to pay for a larger inverter they wouldn't use.
We sized the inverter around the home's actual energy use — not simply for a bigger number on the spec sheet.
Why 26.6kWh of battery?
The family wanted enough storage for their evening and overnight energy use, with extra capacity for higher‑use days.
A smaller battery would have given them less flexibility. The 26.6kWh system provides more stored energy for evening use, overnight consumption and days when their energy use is higher.
For this home, the priority wasn't adding more equipment. It was adding the right amount of battery storage to an existing solar system.
Right‑sized battery. Right‑sized inverter. Designed around the home.
